Summary
The Construction Estimator is a detail-oriented individual responsible for developing accurate and competitive project bids while collaborating closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and CEO, clients, and our company internal teams to ensure successful project execution. The Estimator is versed in breaking down the scope of work by each trade and diving into the granular details to get as much clarity as possible into potential expenses of the construction project.
Responsibilities
· Prepares and estimates budget costs for construction projects by reviewing plans and specifications.
· Evaluates subcontractor proposals to ensure accuracy and cost effectiveness
· Ensures project profitability
· Develops line-item estimates based on construction code
· Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and vendors to develop competitive bids while staying updated on industry trends and pricing
· Works closely with architects, owners, and subcontractors
· Schedules meetings with clients, site managers, and staff as required
· Navigates and understands building codes
· Ability to understand specifications and plans
· Travels to job sites as required
· Monitors construction processes
· Update estimates and handle change orders efficiently
· Stays up to date with safety codes and improvements in construction
· Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and labor-hour figures.
· Maintain internal cost databases and participate in post-bid meetings and contract negotiations as needed.
· Use the assigned company calendar and input schedule for each phase of the project.
Requirements
· Bachelors in mathematics, architecture, or a relevant field
· Must be able to read and interpret specs and plans
· Certificate in general construction, roofing, concrete, electrician, etc very helpful
· 3 solid years of related experience required
· Proven background in estimating/take-off of concrete/rebar/CMU a huge plus
· Knowledge of direct costs like materials and indirect costs like overhead
· Specification and Civil/Architectural/ID/Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing plan literate
· Ability to quickly adapt and overcome inevitable challenges
· Resolves cost differences by analyzing and collecting info
· Communicate effectively in writing and verbally presents budgets, reports, and project plans
· Stays up to date with safety codes and improvements in construction
· Knowledge of the latest State building codes
· Strong math skills including algebra, geometry, and statistics
· Good knowledge of MS Office
· Familiarity with construction/ project estimating software; Bluebeam, BuilderTrend (OST & Timberline a plus, but not required)
· Bilingual in Spanish desirable
· Writing proposals and budget plans, along with documentation of the project to the client is an important aspect
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills
· Ability to put together project timelines

· Ability to safely and successfully perform the duties consistent with the federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
· Must be able to kneel, stoop, stand
· Must be able to sit at a desk and work in front of a desk computer and/or laptop
· Must be able to drive to job project location(s) when needed
· Must be able to work in Florida’s summer temperature outdoors and indoors
· Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the phone
